The Southampton Mineral and Fossil Society hosts the Hampshire Mineral & Fossil Show with exhibits, lectures and a treasure trail.
The Southampton Mineral and Fossil Society holds its annual show at Oasis Academy, Lordshill on Saturday 19 September, from 10am. It's the society's biggest gathering of the year, and it brings together the three things they spend their time on: fossils, minerals and science.
On the day, you'll find exhibits on display and lectures to listen to, with the society's annual photo competition entries shown on a big screen. There's also a treasure trail for children to enter, so it works as a family outing as much as a day for anyone with a genuine interest in the subject. If you're not a member, it's a good way to see what they're about without having to commit to anything first.
To give you a bit of context, the society has been running for more than 50 years. They hold monthly meetings where members and visitors discuss, exhibit or listen to lectures on fossils, minerals and science, and they welcome non-members to those as well. This annual show is the biggest event in their calendar, so it's where the year's work comes together in one place.
