A festive market with wooden chalets, crafts, food, rides and attractions in the pedestrianised shopping district of Above Bar Street and Guildhall Square.
The Southampton Christmas Market returns to Above Bar Street and Guildhall Square from 12 November to 27 December, taking over the pedestrianised shopping district for a good six weeks. It's run by S&D Leisure, and they describe it as a festive wonderland that pairs traditional wooden chalets selling unique crafts and gifts with food, drink, rides and entertainment.
The food stalls pull from a fair few different traditions. You'll find German sausages and French pastries alongside British mince pies, mulled wine, roast chestnuts, bratwurst and Stollen, and locally brewed craft beer. If you're just looking to warm up, there's the Moose Bar and the Alpine Bar, both serving hot chocolate, mulled wine and German beer. And for the kids, Santa's Grotto sits next to the historic Bargate, so it's easy to slot a visit in while you're wandering through.
Because it's spread across Above Bar Street and Guildhall Square, it's a decent size to spend a proper afternoon in, and since it runs right through to 27 December, you've got plenty of time to work your way around it without rushing. If you're coming from further afield, the New Forest and Winchester are both less than half an hour away, so it works as part of a wider day out in the area.
