Scribble - Free Art Workshop

Scribble is holding a free art workshop at John Hansard Gallery on Thursday 6 August, from 10am to 12pm. It's an open-air session where you can decorate sculptures with chalk, and it's open to all ages, so it's as much for kids as it is for adults.

Scribble is a public art project by artists Steve Béga and Rich Holland, working with John Hansard Gallery, which is part of the University of Southampton and one of the UK's leading contemporary art galleries. It started as a series of experimental drawings layered over black-and-white photographs of Southampton, and from there it grew into a collection of large-scale modular sculptures. Those sculptures are intentionally open to interpretation: they can become seating, stages, meeting places, workshop spaces or places to play, depending on how people use them.

Alongside the sculptures, there's a programme of free events that invite people of all ages to share ideas about how public spaces might be used. The whole project is being developed long-term, exploring how creativity can transform public space across Southampton, the New Forest and beyond.

The workshop runs from 10am to 12pm on Thursday 6 August at John Hansard Gallery in Guildhall Square, and it's free to join.
