Alcohol-free music festival at The Brook featuring live music, talks and a networking hub to raise awareness of homelessness and addiction.
Re-Sound is an alcohol-free music festival taking over The Brook on Saturday 25 July. It's a collaboration between the venue, The Society of St James, and the SoCo Music Project, and it's built around raising awareness of homelessness and addiction in Southampton. The music is the main draw, but the whole day is tied to that.
On the bill are The Good Weather for an Airstrike, the Southampton Ukulele Jam, and the Recovery Allstars — a group of adults using music and performance to support their recovery journey. Between the sets, there are talks and a networking hub for anyone looking for support or a new career path. The day is designed to raise funds and shift perceptions about homelessness and addiction in the city.
Two of the partners bring a lot of local context to the table. The Society of St James campaigns for the right to a safe home and draws attention to 'hidden homelessness' — the people who aren't sleeping rough but still don't have a secure place to live. The SoCo Music Project comes in through its ENGAGE programme, which has been running music-making activities since 2008. Together they're using the festival to put these issues in the spotlight while keeping the music front and centre.
