The Dalian Players bring to life the tale of Pinocchio in a brand new original comedy musical, a heartfelt and immersive live theatre experience for the whole family.
The Dalian Players are bringing Pinocchio! to Woolston Methodist Church this October, and it's not the version you'll remember from childhood. It's a brand new, wholly original comedy musical, so rather than a straight retelling, they've written their own songs and script around the story we all know.
The plot starts with the lonely carpenter Geppetto, who mistakenly brings a wooden puppet to life. From there, the two set off on a journey of adventure, wonder and self-discovery: Pinocchio has to figure out what it actually means to be a 'real boy', while Geppetto learns what it is to be a father. It's that second part that gives the show its heartβthe story is as much about the father as it is about the puppet.
On stage, it's a community effort. The production is put together by a lively ensemble of community performers, musicians and artists, so you're seeing local people rather than a touring professional cast. They describe it as a heartfelt and immersive live theatre experience, promising music, magic and plenty of mischief, and they've kept the ticket prices affordable for the whole family.
