Hands on History: Shiver Me Timbers

Tudor House and Garden is running a pirate-themed session for families on Monday 3 August, part of their Hands On History series. It's called Shiver Me Timbers, and it's built around the world of notorious sea rogues, with real pirate stories and games for the kids to get stuck into. The Hands On History sessions are designed to let young people discover history in a fun, interactive way, and this one lets families dive into the pirate side of things together.

The venue itself is worth a bit of a mention if you haven't spent much time there. Tudor House is Southampton's oldest museum and its most important historic building, with over 800 years of history sitting right in the heart of the Old Town. The timber-framed house facing St Michael's Square dates to the late 15th century, and King John's Palace, a Norman home accessible through the garden, stands another 300 years before that. It opened as the city's first museum in 1912, and these days it pairs family-friendly activities with interactive technology and immersive displays. It's also right next to SeaCity Museum, which tells the story of the RMS Titanic, so you've got two museums to work through in one go if you're in the area.

There are two sessions on the day: 10.30am to 12noon and 1pm to 2.30pm, so you can pick the one that fits your morning or afternoon. Adults don't have to pay for this activity, and it's held at Tudor House & Garden, Bugle St, Southampton SO14 2AD.
