Two self-guided heritage walks with a treasure hunt theme, exploring Southampton's history and landmarks.
Curious About Southampton is running throughout 2026 at Dancing Man Brewery, on Town Quay in Southampton. It's not a single event but a pair of self-guided heritage walks that double as treasure hunts, so you can pick them up and set off whenever suits you. Each one takes about one to two hours, and they're designed for all ages, with wheelchair and buggy-friendly paths throughout.
There are two routes to choose from. The first is the Heritage Walk, a 1.5-mile (2.4 km) loop through the city centre. The second is A Walk in The Parks, a slightly shorter 1-mile (1.6 km) stretch. Both come with maps, clues, hints, answers, and a bit of local history to keep you going. You work your way around the city, following the clues and uncovering the sights along the way, and you can do them on your own or with a group.
Between them, the walks take you past some of the city's biggest landmarks and a few of its quieter corners. You'll pass the city walls, a church that dates back a millennium, a 15th-century Tudor house, a medieval merchant's house, a 12th-century city gate, and the SeaCity Museum. It's a good way to see the city's maritime history, too, as Southampton has always been a major departure point for ocean-going liners.
