A festive theatre show by Filskit Theatre where characters embark on a mission to light up their house for Christmas, using British Sign Language and original music.
Filskit Theatre bring Christmas Lights to Mayflower Studios from 25 to 28 November, a festive show aimed at children aged 1–4 and their families. It's staged around a tiny snow-covered house, and follows two friends, Alvie and Kit, on a playful mission to light it up for Christmas. The whole thing is built for the very young, so it's a good one to take the little ones to before the proper Christmas rush kicks in.
What sets it apart is how it's told. There's very little spoken dialogue; the actors convey most of the story through British Sign Language, making it a highly visual piece with original music and BSL integrated throughout. Because it relies on movement and signing rather than a script, it works for all ages, and the BSL is part of the performance itself, not something added on. A reviewer called it 'a sparkling gem of a production that perfectly captures the wonder of the festive season'.
When the show finishes, the experience doesn't just stop. Audiences are invited to stay and play with the performers in a snow-covered garden, so it's more of an afternoon out than a sit-and-watch. If you're going with toddlers, that's probably the bit they'll enjoy most.

Tickets are £11.00, with discounts available, including two off for groups of ten or more. Under-12s need a full-price ticket unless they're under 12 months, in which case they go free but still need to be pre-booked. The show runs at Mayflower Studios on Above Bar Street, SO14 7DU, from 25 to 28 November.
