The National Theatre's sell-out production of Ballet Shoes tours the UK, stopping at Mayflower Theatre. A five-star stage reimagining of Noel Streatfeild's beloved 1936 novel.
Ballet Shoes is coming to the Mayflower Theatre from 22 to 26 February 2028. It's the National Theatre's production of Noel Streatfeild's 1936 novel, which sold out during its run in London before heading out on its first UK tour. The tour is produced with Chris Harper Productions and supported by Raymond James.
The story is set in a crumbling house full of dinosaur bones and fossils, and it follows three adopted sisters — Pauline, Petrova and Posy. Guided by their guardians and a handful of unlikely lodgers, they each pursue their own passions in a world not built for women with big ambitions, all while trying to keep their family together. It's a stage reimagining of the original book, adapted by Kendall Feaver and directed by Katy Rudd. Rudd also helmed The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry and is set to direct Emma Thompson's new musical adaptation of Nanny McPhee in the West End.
The production has picked up some strong reviews along the way: the Sunday Times called it a 'masterpiece', The Guardian described it as 'spectacular', and The i called it 'a perfect joy'. It's a five-star show that's now making its way across the country, and Southampton is one of its stops.
