Screening of the 1982 film 'The Wall', directed by Alan Parker and based on Pink Floyd's album, within the WTF cycle at Showroom.
Pink Floyd's The Wall is screening at Showroom on Thursday 19 November, part of the WTF cycle. It's the 1982 film directed by Alan Parker, which runs for an hour and thirty-five minutes.
The movie is based on the band's 1979 studio album The Wall, and the screenplay was written by their vocalist and bassist, Roger Waters. Bob Geldof, lead singer of The Boomtown Rats, made his acting debut in the lead role of the rock star Pink. Much of the film's visual identity comes from the animation sequences by cartoonist, illustrator and designer Gerald Scarfe, who later designed the animation for The Wall stage show.
It's a screening of the film in full, so you'll get the whole thing from start to finish in one sitting. If you've only ever known the album, seeing it on the big screen is a different way into the story. The animation is a big part of that, too, and it's the same work that eventually made its way into the live show.
