WTF: Audition [4K Restoration]

Showroom Cinema is screening Takashi Miike's Audition on Thursday 29 October, as part of their 'What The Film' (WTF) strand. It's a 4K restoration of the 1999 Japanese thriller, running 1 hour 53 minutes and rated 18.

If you haven't come across it, Audition follows Aoyama, a widower who, with the help of a film-producer friend, holds auditions for a fake production as a makeshift dating service. He becomes intrigued by the withdrawn and gorgeous Asami, and their relationship drifts towards a harrowing climax. It's one of those films that starts in one place and ends somewhere entirely different, and the 4K restoration should give it a proper look on the big screen.

The screening is part of 'What The Film', Showroom's twice-monthly cult cinema programme. They pair international and indie classics with underseen gems and wonderfully weird films, and they describe it as being for seasoned cinephiles and newcomers alike. It's a good way to find things you might not usually seek out on your own, and Audition fits right into that mix of cult classic and something a bit off-centre.

It's on Thursday 29 October at 20:00 at Showroom Cinema, 15 Paternoster Row, S1 2BX, Sheffield. The film is rated 18, so keep that in mind if you're bringing anyone along.
