Writing and Rituals Poetry Workshop: Finding the Witch

goodnighttheskye leads a poetry workshop at The Writers Workshop on Saturday 24 October, from 3:45pm to 5:45pm. It's called Finding the Witch, and it's part of Weird Weekend, the annual programme of hands-on workshops run by The Writers Workshop, a nonprofit social enterprise that shares creative writing with beginners and experienced writers alike. The session is over 18s only.

The workshop uses rituals as prompts for witchy verse. You'll work with dice rolls and rituals to guide you towards your inner witch, and the whole thing is framed around the witch as a figure of strength, inspiration and discovery. The idea is to demystify the process of writing and performing poetry through magic and play, so it's as much about the doing as it is about the writing. It's an immersive, transformative session that takes you through the process rather than just talking about it.

Rhiannon-Skye, who writes as goodnighttheskye, is a published poet and award-winning spoken-word artist. Her work has appeared in print, on radio and on stage, from Radiophrenia Glasgow to The Blue Heron Review, and her debut collection, New Fables for Transformation, included a poem nominated for the Pushcart Prize. She'll be leading the session from start to finish, so you'll be working with someone who knows the craft from both the page and the stage.

General admission is £28, and if you're a Writers Workshop member it's £25. There's also a combo option that includes the workshop and the Weird Weekend Pre-Halloween Party, which follows the session at Sheffield Plate: £31 for members and £34 for general admission. The workshop runs from 3:45pm to 5:45pm at The Writers Workshop, 14 Orchard Square, Sheffield City Centre, S1 2FB.
