Weird Weekend Pre-Halloween Party

The Writers Workshop are hosting the Weird Weekend Pre-Halloween Party at Sheffield Plate on Saturday 24 October, from 18:30 to 23:00. They've billed it as a literary-flavoured dress rehearsal for Halloween proper the following Saturday, pitched at adults as a chance to leave the kids at home. It's strictly over-18s, so it's one of those nights where you can actually let your hair down without worrying about the little ones.

The line-up leans into the literary theme. There's a spoken-word performance by goodnighttheskye, and Quiz Cupboard LIVE! brings a seasonal literary edition of their podcast quiz to the stage. Beyond that, the night runs as a party: tarot readings, Halloween treats, a prize for best dressed, and dancing. If you're into the costume side of things, this is your chance to test out a look before the main event the next weekend.

There's a bit of context worth knowing about the organisers. The Writers Workshop receives zero grant funding and runs up to 30 events a month, so the party doubles as a fundraiser. You can buy a no-fee supporter ticket if you want to chip in, and there's a cash-only raffle on the night. They describe the crowd as a friendly community, which is a nice thing to keep in mind if you're heading in on your own.

Tickets are £14.00, and the whole thing runs from 18:30 to 23:00 at Sheffield Plate, 31-33 Orchard Square, S1 2FB.
