A free sound, movement and costume workshop led by artist Eelyn Lee, starting with a walk along the River Sheaf.
Eelyn Lee is leading a free sound, movement and costume workshop at Yorkshire Artspace: Exchange Place Studios on Saturday 17 October, from 13:00 to 16:00. It's presented by Arts Catalyst as part of the La Escuelita collection, and it's open to adults and children aged 11 and over, with younger ones welcome as long as they're accompanied by an adult.
The session starts with a walk along the River Sheaf down to where it meets the Don — the city's birthplace. It's a stretch of water that lay hidden underground for more than a century and is now being uncovered as part of the Castlegate regeneration project, so the walk is as much about Sheffield's hidden geography as it is about the river itself. Back at Exchange Place, the afternoon moves into sonic and movement-led exercises, before a collective costume-making activity that turns those reflections into mythological characters built from natural and recycled materials.
Lee is an award-winning artist and filmmaker of dual British-Hong Kong heritage whose work has been shown at the Barbican, Tate Modern, Whitechapel Gallery, the National Portrait Gallery and Palais de Tokyo; she blends costume, choreography, ritual and sound to forge new mythologies. She's joined here by Poh-Eng San, an Environmental Movement Artist and Somatic Movement Practitioner who teaches Tai Chi and Qigong and runs seasonal workshops in the Peak District.

Between the walk, the movement exercises and the making, it's a full afternoon that takes you from the riverbank back into the studio. It runs from 13:00 to 16:00 at Yorkshire Artspace: Exchange Place Studios, Exchange Street, Sheffield City Centre, S2 5TR, and it's free to attend.
