Toddlers become little curators, sweeping floors and dusting shelves with adult supervision, as part of the Fridays Under 5s series.
Toddler Takeover is at Weston Park Museum on Friday 20 November, from 10am to 12:30pm. The session is part of the museum's Fridays Under 5s - Get Stuck In! series, which runs every Friday during term time from 2 October 2026 to 19 March 2027. It's aimed at children under five, who need to be accompanied by an adult at all times.
For this particular session, the toddlers take charge as little curators, sweeping floors and dusting shelves with adult supervision. It's a chance for them to get a hands-on look at how a museum is kept running, rather than just walking through and looking at the displays. The series alternates between two types of activity: 'Messy' sessions, with mud play, clay, cornflour gloop, paint colour mixing, rice and lentil digging, and water with sea creatures; and 'Gallery' sessions, where children make cosy soft spaces with rugs and cushions, handle materials of different textures, and play with household objects. Toddler Takeover falls into the latter, with the focus on the museum's day-to-day work.
