Free songwriters showcase where members of the Union Street songwriting group perform the original songs they write and share.
Union St Songwriters are bringing their showcase to Union St Cafe on Friday 27 November, with the night running from 7:30 to 10:30 pm. It's a three-hour stretch of original songs, and it's free to get in, though you'll need to register first.
To understand what the night is, it helps to know how it comes together. The showcase brings together Union Street members and friends who have been meeting up every month to write and share original songs, and then perform them live. That monthly gathering is where the songs are worked on and played for each other before they make it to a stage, so what you'll hear is material that's been through a proper process of writing and sharing within the group. The showcase is the point where those songs go out to a wider audience.
The night is run by Union St Songwriters, and the line-up is drawn from that same circle of members and friends. Because the songs come from a monthly writing group, the set is made up of original work rather than covers. The whole thing lasts around three hours, so there's plenty of room for a good number of songwriters to take their turn.
