Monthly multi-genre jam night on the last Monday of every month at Mary St Live, with a full backline for musicians of all levels.
Unherd is a new multi-genre jam night in Sheffield city centre, and its first run kicks off at Mary St Live on Monday 26 October. It's a monthly thing, landing on the last Monday of every month, so this is the first of three scheduled dates to start the year, with the next two following on Monday 30 November and Monday 28 December.
The whole idea is to throw together unusual combinations of genres, styles and instruments to make something new and interesting. It's a jam night, so it's less about a fixed setlist and more about who turns up and what they bring to the stage. The multi-genre side of things is the point: the aim is to pair up people who wouldn't normally play together and see what happens when they do.
If you play, there's a full backline provided on the night, so you can plug in and play without hauling your own gear across town. That opens it up to musicians of all levels, from people who've been playing for years to those who just fancy a go. And it's not just for the players — there's just as much of a place for people who'd rather come along and watch. If you're not playing, you're the audience for whatever combinations end up forming on stage.

It runs from 19:30 to 22:00 at Mary St Live, 95 Mary Street, S1 4RT, in the city centre. Entry is free, and since it's a monthly fixture, you can catch the first one on Monday 26 October and then see how it evolves on 30 November and 28 December.
