The Yacht Rock Show

The Yacht Rock Show plays Picturedrome in Sheffield on Saturday 26 June 2027. It's a night dedicated to the smooth, soft-rock sound of the late seventies and early eighties — the kind of music that defined the era's West Coast studio scene.

If you're not familiar with the term, yacht rock is that particular blend of polished pop and R&B that came out of California and Florida during that period. It's the sound of Steely Dan, The Doobie Brothers, Hall & Oates, and Christopher Cross — songs with clean production, tight harmonies, and a relaxed, sun-drenched feel. The show works its way through that whole catalogue, bringing together the tracks that fit the mould.

It's a broad stretch of music to cover, and the set draws from across the whole era rather than sticking to one or two names. You'll hear the more sophisticated, jazz-inflected side of things alongside the straightforward pop-rock that filled the airwaves back then. It's a good way to get a lot of those songs in one go, rather than hunting them down one by one.
