The Smyths, the UK tribute band to The Smiths, play The Foundry on Western Bank and revisit 'The Queen Is Dead' for its 40th anniversary.
The Smyths play The Foundry on Saturday 21 November, as part of their 2026 tour. The night is presented by The Pad Presents at the Students' Union on Western Bank, a 1,300-capacity venue.
Since 2003, The Smyths have been paying homage to one of the 1980s most recognisable bands, channelling the rough-edged spirit of The Smiths into a live show that's taken the quartet around the length of the UK and onto the Glastonbury stage. This particular tour marks the 40th anniversary of The Queen Is Dead, and the band will be revisiting the album in full. That means they'll be running through songs like 'Frankly, Mr. Shankly', 'I Know It's Over', 'Bigmouth Strikes Again', 'The Boy With The Thorn In His Side', 'Vicar In A Tutu' and 'There Is A Light That Never Goes Out' one after another, rather than scattering them across a set. After that, they'll close with a 'Best of' spanning the classic Smiths back catalogue.
It's a long-running project, then — they've been at this for over two decades, and this tour is built around one of the most well-known records of the era. If you're familiar with the album, you'll recognise the sequence; if not, it's a good way to hear it from start to finish in one go. The night is for ages 14 and over, with under-16s needing to be accompanied by an adult.
