Interactive comedy show by John Robertson where the audience tries to escape a dungeon in a live-action video game.
John Robertson brings The Dark Room to Foundry on Wednesday 11 November, from 6:30pm to 10:30pm. It's an interactive comedy show that mixes improv, crowd-work and gaming to turn the room into a live-action video game, and it's now in its 13th year.
The premise is simple: the audience is trapped inside an inescapable dungeon with a sadistic video-game boss. To get out, you have to pick increasingly surreal options off a large screen facing the crowd, and the whole thing is described as a high-octane, gut-busting rock-n-roll comedy experience. The show runs in two 40-minute parts with a brief interval, and Robertson spends the night moving among the crowd, calling everyone 'Darren' — a running joke that's become part of the show's mythology. He also does a quickfire Q&A at the end.
Robertson is a stand-up, improviser and performer who's staged over 500 shows around the world, with his work drawing more than 4 million hits on YouTube. He won Best Kids Show at the Leicester Comedy Festival in 2018 and a ThreeWeeks Editors Choice at EdFringe in 2016, and he's also written a book.
