Hands-on sushi-making class for beginners and all ages, where participants make maki, nigiri and futomaki.
Cambridge Street Collective is hosting a sushi making workshop on Sunday 22 November, run in partnership with KYOYU. It's a one-hour session that runs from 11 am to 12 pm, so it's a late-morning thing that leaves the rest of your Sunday wide open. The workshop is held at the Collective's space at 11 Backfields, right in Sheffield city centre (S1 4HP).
It's a hands-on class, which is the best way to learn something like this. You'll be guided through making five pieces of sushi from scratch: two maki, two nigiri — which you can choose as salmon or vegan — and one futomaki, with the choice of California or vegan. By the time the hour is up, you'll have made a proper little spread of different styles, and you'll know how to put them together yourself.
One of the best things about it is who it's for. It's pitched as a class for kids, adults and the whole family, so it works as a solo thing, a date, or something to do with the kids. No experience is needed, and all ages are welcome, which means you can turn up as a total beginner and still walk away with a few new skills. If you've always wanted to try making sushi but didn't know where to start, this is a low-pressure way to get into it.
