Self-guided audio walking tour of 15 Sheffield landmarks, downloaded to your phone and explored at your own pace.
Steel City Through Time: A Sheffield Sound Odyssey starts at the Crucible Theatre on Sunday 25 October, though it's not a show you sit through in one go. It's a self-guided audio tour delivered through the AudaTours app, so there's no in-person guide and no fixed start time. You download it to your phone and move at your own pace, which is the whole point: you're in charge of the clock.
The route kicks off at the Crucible Theatre and takes you around 2.8km (about 1.7 miles) across 15 landmarks. Among them are the Cathedral Church of St Marie, the site of Sheffield Castle, Tudor Square, Paradise Square and the Company of Cutlers in Hallamshire. As you approach each stop, up to 38 minutes of narration play automatically, so you can stop and linger as long as you like without worrying about a group waiting on you. Once it's downloaded, the tour works entirely offline, which is handy if your signal drops as you move through the city.

It's built for solo travellers, couples, families and small groups who'd rather explore on their own schedule than follow a guide and a fixed departure time. If you're the sort who likes to wander and stop when something catches your eye, this is exactly that: your own tour, your own pace, and no one to keep you on a timetable. The tour costs £4.99, and since it's self-guided, you can start whenever you're ready.
