Guided listening session on Cambodian pop and psychedelic rock led by DJ KomKom, followed by a DJ set at The System.
KomKom brings Cambodian music to The System in Neepsend on Thursday 22 October, as part of the Sound Service Station series. It's hosted by Linga Sound, and the night is split into two distinct halves: a guided listening session followed by a DJ set.
The first part is a 90-minute guided session on Cambodian pop and psychedelic rock, led by British-Khmer DJ KomKom. Rather than just playing records, he'll talk through the music as it plays, giving you a sense of the sounds and the history behind them. If you've never come across Cambodian pop or psych rock, it's a good way to get a proper introduction rather than just hearing a few random tracks. The session runs for an hour and a half, so there's plenty of room to settle in.
Once the guided part wraps up, the night shifts into a DJ set, where the music takes over and you can just dance to it. The whole evening forms part of The System's arts, culture and nightlife programming in Neepsend, so it's one of the nights they're putting on as part of their wider calendar for the area.
