A curated short film programme exploring Black stories across the UK, presented by Site Gallery's Creative Producers as part of the Black History Month 'We Are the Storytellers' initiative.
Stories We Carry comes to Showroom Cinema on Thursday 22 October, a short film programme curated by Site Gallery's Creative Producers. It brings together Black stories from across the UK, described as vessels of memory, music, family and friction that trace the contours of Black Britain through intimate portraits. Each screening is framed as an invitation to witness, reflect and feel the weight and wonder of the narratives we inherit and create.
The programme is a collaboration between Site Gallery's Creative Producers and Showroom Community, which gives local, care-experienced young people a public platform to develop and showcase their skills. The Producers themselves are a collective of care-experienced young people aged 18-25 who meet weekly to develop their creativity and professional skills. The screening is part of Black History Month: We Are the Storytellers, a youth-led film and arts programme made with five local youth groups that celebrates and spotlights young Black creativity across Sheffield.
It's a short film programme, so you'll see a few different pieces in one sitting rather than one long feature. The screening is followed by a discussion, which gives you a chance to talk through what you've seen with the people involved. The whole thing runs as part of that wider Black History Month programme, so it's one of several youth-led events happening around the city this month.
