Free zine-making workshop for teenagers to write, draw and craft a personal zine about their experience of Sheffield.
Sheffield Central Library is hosting a zine making workshop for 10 to 16-year-olds on Thursday 29 October, from 12:00 to 14:00. It's part of Share your Sheffield, a project celebrating the young people who make the city what it is. The session is run with Site Gallery's participation team, and the whole idea is to get teenagers to write, draw and craft a personal zine about their own lived experience of Sheffield.
That's a broad brief, and it's meant to be. You're encouraged to fill it with the things you're actually into — gaming, football, music, poetry, whatever you spend your time on — and the places in the city you love. It's a personal zine, so it's as much about your interests as it is about the city around you. Once they're finished, the zines are displayed in the library and shared online, so what you make ends up being seen by other people.
Behind the scenes, the project is a collaboration between the Sheffield libraries team and Site Gallery, marking the National Year of Reading and funded by Libraries Connected, Yorkshire and Humber Region. Site Gallery is a contemporary art gallery in Sheffield that brings artists and audiences together through exhibitions, events and creative experiences, and they're the ones running the session on the day.
