Weekend of 20 adventure feature films from each year of the Sheffield Adventure Film Festival (2006-2026), hosted by festival director Matt Heason.
ShAFF is back at Showroom Cinema on Saturday 28 and Sunday 29 November, and this time it's a big one. The Sheffield Adventure Film Festival first landed at the Showroom in March 2006, so this weekend marks exactly twenty years since it started. To celebrate, they're running a retrospective that looks back over the whole stretch.
The programme is built around twenty feature films, one from each year of the festival from 2006 to 2026. They're split into eight blocks, each running between 90 and 150 minutes, and festival director Matt Heason will be hosting throughout. Heason has watched more than 5,000 adventure films over the last two decades, and he's curated this line-up from two playlists of audience and judges' favourites. The films are screened in order, so you'll see the evolution of adventure cinema as it's unfolded over twenty years. The weekend is designed to show how the festival, filmmaking, and Sheffield itself have changed since those first screenings in 2006, and there's a shorts programme running alongside the features.
