Free morning at Support Dogs' Elsworth House centre with a talk from its fundraising manager, a tour of the new centre and a chance to meet the assistance dogs.
Support Dogs are opening their doors at Elsworth House on Thursday 28 January, for a behind-the-scenes morning called Seeing is Believing. It's run in partnership with South Yorkshire's Giving Network, and the whole thing is free to attend.
If you've heard the name but aren't sure what they actually do, it's a Sheffield-based charity that trains specialist assistance dogs for children and adults living with long-term medical conditions, including autism, epilepsy and a wide range of physical disabilities. They've been at it for more than 30 years, and they describe the societal value of their work as over £40 million a year, though they're facing overwhelming demand. Last year they launched a major capital appeal to build a new, much larger national centre in Hillsborough.
The morning starts with a welcome from Michelle Dickinson, Deputy CEO of the South Yorkshire Community Foundation, followed by a talk from Danny Anderson, Support Dogs' Fundraising Manager. From there, you'll get a tour of the new centre and a chance to meet the assistance dogs themselves.
