Free screening of the climate crisis film 'The People's Emergency Briefing' followed by an open discussion, with all the city's MPs and councillors invited.
The People's Emergency Briefing is being screened at the Nelson Mandela Auditorium at Sheffield Students' Union on Tuesday 27 October, from 7:00 PM to 8:45 PM. It's a 50-minute film produced by the National Emergency Briefing, a public information initiative set up to make sure the UK is clearly and honestly briefed on the climate and nature crisis.
The film builds on the National Emergency Briefing held in Westminster in November 2025, which brought leading experts face to face with politicians and other influential figures. It combines footage from that event with reactions from members of the public and contributions from figures such as Chris Packham, a former general, and Jennifer Saunders. The screening is followed by an open discussion, so there's time to talk through what you've seen rather than just heading home when the credits roll.
This particular screening is staged by a civic collaboration of residents, community groups, and organisations, with support from the South Yorkshire Climate Alliance. All the city's MPs and councillors have been invited, so that residents and local representatives can hear the same information and consider what a fair, effective local response could look like. It's set up as a room where the people living here and the people representing them are listening to the same briefing at the same time.
