Live gig by the psych-folk trio Sairie, with support from Zandra and the acid-folk trio Haunting, at Bishops' House.
Sairie play Bishops' House on Sunday 25 October, with support from Zandra and Haunting, an acid-folk trio. It's a full bill, so there's plenty to hear before the main set.
Sairie are a sparse, delicate psych-folk trio from east Sussex, formed in Brighton and fronted by Emma Morton, Jon Griffin and Andy Thomas. Their music mixes original songs with traditional material drawn from folklore, dark tales, mystery and the natural landscape. Critics have described the sound as stripped-back, other-worldly and beautiful, at times comparing it to a séance. It's the kind of music that asks you to lean in and listen, rather than something to have on in the background.
They've released two 7-inch singles on the Fenny Compton and Gardener's Delight labels and two self-released EPs distributed by Hudson Records. Among those is The Cinder Sheet, a collection of film-song covers recorded remotely during lockdown that caught the attention of Stewart Lee, who wrote about it in The Idler magazine. Their first full-length album, Beneath the Spreading Tree, followed. Between the original songs and the traditional material, there's a fair bit of ground they cover.
