Club night with a DJ set by 808 State, the Mancunian electronic pioneers behind 'Pacific State', at Sidney and Matilda.
808 State are playing a DJ set at Sidney and Matilda on Saturday 24 October, part of the S&M Presents club night. It's a late one, running from 11pm to 4am, so you've got plenty of room to settle in.
If the name doesn't ring a bell, they're Mancunian electronic pioneers, formed in 1988 by Graham Massey, Martin Price and Gerald Simpson. Their early work helped shape the UK's acid house scene, and their first album, Newbuild, is now regarded as a milestone in British electronica. Quadrastate followed, and its track 'Pacific State' became an end-of-night anthem at the Haçienda before it was picked up by daytime BBC Radio 1. In 1989, Paul Morley signed them to the ZTT label, and the album Ninety was awarded 10 out of 10 by the NME.
They've always drawn from two distinct places: their home city's industrial past and classic Detroit techno. Even after all these years, they describe themselves as still focused on the future. The group is still led by founding member Graham Massey and they're still performing across the world, with some of their best-known records being Ninety, Gorgeous, ex:el and Don Solaris.

It's a DJ set rather than a live band performance, so the night is built around the dancefloor. The venue is Sidney and Matilda, 46 Sidney Street, Sheffield, S1 4RH, and it kicks off at 11pm on Saturday 24 October, running through to 4am.
