Queer Writes writing group's first 'After Party' night with an open mic reading and DJ sets by local Gut Level regulars, plus a zine launch.
Queer Writes are taking over Gut Level on Saturday 24 October for The Afterparty, their first go at this particular format. It's a zine launch, and as the name suggests, it's the party that follows an open mic reading. The night is billed as being jam-packed with emotion, laughter and raw talent, and it's the first time the group has put together an evening like this.
Queer Writes is a Sheffield writing group for shes, gays and nonbinary slays. The zine being launched is the result of that work, so the night is as much about the writing as it is about the music. The reading comes first, with the party taking over afterwards.
On the decks you'll find Liv Grace, Norma and DJ Girlfriend Experience. They're local regulars at Gut Level, the kind of people you're more likely to see behind the bar than on the decks, so this is a bit of a flip in roles. They'll be taking over the music for the night, keeping things going long after the reading has wrapped up.

It all kicks off at 11 PM at Gut Level, 32-34 Chapel Walk in the city centre. There's no charge for entry, though you're encouraged to tip the DJ if you're feeling it. The reading comes first, then the music takes over from there.
