A lecture by Polly Sculpher, Head of Macroeconomic Strategy Unit at HM Treasury, on UK economic policy, delivered as part of the University of Sheffield's Perraton Lecture series.
Polly Sculpher is coming to The Diamond on Tuesday 3 November for the Perraton Lecture, where she'll be talking about the making of UK economic policy. She's the Head of the Macroeconomic Strategy Unit at HM Treasury, so this is a chance to hear from someone who works right at the heart of how the country's economic decisions are actually shaped.
The lecture is titled The Treasury of the Bank of England: The making of UK economic policy, and it's hosted by the University of Sheffield's School of Economics. If you've ever wondered how the Treasury and the Bank of England coordinate on the big picture, this is as close as you're likely to get to the inside story. Sculpher's role puts her in the room where those strategies are built, so she's talking from a place of direct experience rather than just theory.
There's a bit of history behind the lecture itself. The Perraton Lecture was set up by the School of Economics to honour Dr Jonathan Perraton, a Senior Lecturer in the School and a member of staff at the University from 1995 to 2023. It's part of that tradition of bringing in people from the field to speak to the university community and the wider city.
