A performance by Nicola Dale that bids farewell to the objects in the Gathering Landscapes exhibition, with opportunities for visitors to take part throughout the day.
Nicola Dale is at Weston Park Museum on Sunday 1 November, from 11:30am to 3:30pm, for a performance called Goodbye Gathering. It's the closing act for Gathering Landscapes, an exhibition curated by Heavy Water Collective that brought together images and artefacts from across Sheffield's collections. The show is about to pack up, and this is the send-off.
Dale spends the day saying goodbye to each item in the exhibition, one by one, through words, actions and quiet contemplation. The whole thing is framed as a moment of both joy and sorrow: the objects were brought together for this one show, and once it closes, they'll be separated and will never be seen in this particular arrangement again. It's a slow, deliberate way of acknowledging that the exhibition is ending, and the performance follows the objects as they're about to go back to where they came from.
One thing that makes this different from a typical performance is how it's structured. It runs continuously throughout the day, so you don't have to be there for the start or the end to get the gist of it. You can drop in for ten minutes or stay for an hour, and there are opportunities to take part as you go. There's no need to book, so you can just turn up whenever suits you between 11:30am and 3:30pm.

It's a suggested donation of £5 to enter, and since it's a drop-in, it works as a quiet way to spend a Sunday morning or afternoon. If you've been following Gathering Landscapes since it opened, this is the final chance to see the collection together before it's dismantled.
