Two-hour workshop in which parent and child pairs design and create their own Halloween-themed fused glass lantern.
Handmade at Royd is hosting a parent and child Halloween lantern workshop on Sunday 25 October, from 1 pm to 3 pm. It's a two-hour session where you and your child work together to make a fused glass lantern, so you'll both be getting your hands on the glass rather than one just watching the other.
The idea is to design a Halloween-themed fused glass panel, and they've given a few prompts to get you started: spooky houses, witches, spiders, pumpkins and enchanted trees. You'll be working with fused glass, which means you layer pieces of coloured glass on top of each other to build your image. Once you've finished your design, the studio takes it from there — they kiln-fire the glass to fuse the layers together and then assemble it into a lantern that you take home, ready to light up the house for the spooky season.
There's no need to have done anything like this before; all the materials are provided, and refreshments are included in the session. It's aimed at children aged 10 and over, accompanied by an adult, so it's more of a project for the older kids than a toddler's craft morning. The whole thing runs for two hours, and you'll leave with a finished lantern to keep.
