A nature-inspired celebration featuring storytelling by Carmel Page, hands-on creative activities, and the launch of a new walking and bus trail from Darnall to the museum.
Weston Park Museum is hosting the Green Connections Celebration on Saturday 28 November, from 12pm to 3pm. It's the wrap-up of a project that's been running in Darnall, funded by the Esmée Fairbairn Collections Fund, and the afternoon is built around what the local community has been doing with the museum's natural science collections.
There's a fair bit to get stuck into over the three hours. Carmel Page will be doing nature-inspired storytelling, and there are hands-on activities like nature monoprinting and poster making. You'll also be able to see the latest display in the What on Earth! gallery, which was put together by community participants from the S9 area. The celebration also marks the launch of a walking and bus trail from Darnall to Weston Park Museum, a route devised by the group themselves.
To get a sense of where this comes from: Green Connections has been working with communities in Darnall around the museum's natural science collections to improve wellbeing, explore the environmental crisis, and grow the museum's community-led, participatory approach. Backed by Darnall Well Being, the S9 Green Connections Nature group has been exploring the local natural environment and heritage, connecting residents with each other, with local green spaces, and with the museum's collections. The trail they've mapped out is a practical extension of that work, linking the neighbourhood directly to the museum.

It's a family-friendly afternoon, so you can drift between the storytelling, the making, and the new display at your own pace. The suggested donation is £3. The museum itself turns 150 in 2025 and collects objects that matter to people today so that future generations can understand what life was like in Sheffield.
