Online talk in which artist Jyll Bradley speaks with Ben Harman about her work with photographic lightboxes and her self-portraits from the late 1980s.
Jyll Bradley is in conversation with Ben Harman at the Graves Gallery on Wednesday 25 November, from 6pm to 7pm. It's a talk about her photographic work, and a good chunk of it looks back at the self-portraits she made in the late 1980s.
Bradley is a London-based artist who works across installation, photography, sculpture, film and performance. Her practice mixes the formal side of Minimalism with questions of queerness, identity, light and community. She studied Fine Art at Goldsmiths' College from 1985 to 1988, and later at the Slade School of Art from 1991 to 1993. She's credited as the first artist in the UK to work with photographic lightboxes, and fluorescent Plexiglas has become her signature material.
Her public work includes The Hop (2022) for the Hayward Gallery and Green/Light (for M.R.) (2014) for the Folkestone Triennial. The talk will be led by Ben Harman, Senior Curator of Photography at the National Galleries of Scotland, who was Director of Stills: Centre for Photography in Edinburgh from 2014 to 2024.
