An evening of film, performance, exhibition and a panel discussion on Sheffield's Black history, part of the University of Sheffield's Festival of the Mind 2026.
An evening of way/mark/ing comes to SADACCA on Thursday 12 November, from 6pm to 8pm. It's part of the University of Sheffield's Festival of the Mind 2026, which runs from 6 to 15 November across the city. This is the festival's eighth edition, and the final one under outgoing Director Professor Vanessa Toulmin. The whole thing works by pairing local artists and creatives with academics to turn university research into public events, and it's brought more than 200,000 visitors into the city centre since it started in 2012.
The evening itself is built around the way/mark/ing project, which carries on the work of the late historian and racial justice activist Mark Hutchinson. He was a key figure in researching Sheffield's radical Black history, and the project brings together films and artworks by Black creatives who work with archives to shape how histories are remembered and how spaces are made. It's a session that mixes film, performance, exhibition and a panel discussion, and it'll be live-streamed if you can't make it in person.
