Northern Ballet's David Nixon CBE production of Emily Brontë's 'Wuthering Heights' set to music by Claude-Michel Schönberg, with matinees and an audio-described performance.
Northern Ballet bring Wuthering Heights to the Lyceum from Tuesday 6 to Saturday 10 April 2027. It's a ballet by David Nixon CBE, choreographed by Nixon and set to music by Claude-Michel Schönberg.
There's a fair bit of history behind this one. Wuthering Heights was Nixon's first creation for Northern Ballet during his time as Artistic Director, which ran from 2001 to 2022. It premiered in 2002 in Bradford, inspired by Emily BrontĂ«'s gothic novel, and marked his first collaboration with Schönberg â the composer who later became a household name with Les MisĂ©rables and Miss Saigon. The ballet portrays Cathy and Heathcliff's love as a force of nature â beautiful, brutal and impossible to escape â and it's performed to recorded music. Current Artistic Director Federico Bonelli has pointed to the company's habit of turning classic novels into ballets, with a Jane Eyre revival in 2025 and Gentleman Jack in 2026 leading up to this.
