A seven-minute three-screen shadow-puppet film by Cole Morris with a narrated poem by Désirée Reynolds, remembering the Black servants of Wentworth Woodhouse.
Cole Morris brings My Shoes For The Blacks to Studio 1, Site Gallery on Sunday 25 October, as part of the Sensoria Festival. It's a three-screen shadow-puppet film commissioned by Wentworth Woodhouse and presented by Dig Where You Stand.
The film runs for seven minutes and pays homage to the hidden lives of the Black servants who worked, lived and died at Wentworth Woodhouse. It's accompanied by a narrated poem performed by Désirée Reynolds, so the voice and the imagery run together rather than one following the other. Morris and Reynolds will both be there to introduce it at the door at noon, so you'll get to hear from the people behind it before the film starts.
Studio 1 at Site Gallery is a Sheffield venue that specialises in moving image, new media and performance-based art, which fits the three-screen setup here. The film is part of the Sensoria Festival, a city-wide celebration of sound and art that runs across various sites in Sheffield.
