Three-hour in-person short course at Carousel Print Studio to learn trace, light field and dark field monotype techniques and create portrait prints.
Carousel Print Studio is running a monotype printmaking workshop focused on portraiture on Saturday 3 April, from 1 pm to 4 pm. It's a three-hour in-person short course held at their studio in Exchange Place Studios, on Exchange Street in Sheffield city centre.
The session is all about monotype, a form of printmaking where you work on a single plate to create one unique print rather than an edition of many. Over the afternoon, you'll work through trace, light field and dark field techniques, using each one to build up a series of expressive portrait prints. The three different methods give you a few different ways to approach the same subject, so you'll end up with a set of prints rather than just one.
Carousel describes the session as relaxed and accessible, and they're clear that it's open to beginners as well as anyone looking to develop their printmaking, portrait painting or drawing skills. You don't need to have any drawing experience to get something out of it, so it works as a starting point if you've never picked up a printmaking tool before.
