Liverpool dreampop five-piece Monks play the Hallamshire Hotel on West Street.
Monks play the Hallamshire Hotel on Thursday 29 October, their first Sheffield date since the original show on 13 October was rescheduled. They're a five-piece dreampop collective from Liverpool, formed in late 2017 around frontman George Pomford, with guitarist Nathan Johnson, drummer Kali Diston-Jones and synthesist Liam Daly. The set is theirs alone — no support act on the bill.
Their sound sits at the intersection of lo-fi, dreamy production and jazz and psychedelic influences, and they've built a decent following since those early days in Liverpool. They've amassed more than 2.5 million combined catalogue streams and have played out across the UK, selling out venues like Liverpool's Arts Club Theatre. If you've come across them on record, the live set is where those textures — the hazy production, the jazz leanings and the psychedelic streaks — come together in one room.
