Creative nonfiction workshop led by Delaina Haslam on how objects spark memory, using memoir and fiction writing techniques.
The Writers Workshop is hosting Memories Unearthed, a writing workshop on objects as memories, at Orchard Square on Friday 6 November. It's led by Delaina Haslam, a creative nonfiction writer and translator who's written for arts and entertainment publications in Madrid and London and translates francophone African poetry for the Poetry Translation Centre. She's currently working on a memoir about baby loss and brain disease, with extracts shortlisted for the Northern Debut Award and the Plaza Memoir Prize, and reaching the second stage of the Bridport Memoir Prize.
The session draws on memoir and fiction writing techniques to look at how objects spark memory and how that connection can be ruptured. It's run by The Writers Workshop, a Sheffield nonprofit social enterprise built on four pillars: community, bringing together writers of all backgrounds; creativity, stimulating the creative-writing process; craft, developing wordsmithing skills through self-editing and critiquing; and careers, helping writers professionalise and find routes to publication. Tea and coffee are provided during the workshop.
