In-person reading and Q&A with authors Amy Sparkes and Genevieve Carver, organised by The Writers Workshop, for aspiring writers and keen readers.
Amy Sparkes and Genevieve Carver are coming to Waterstones on Tuesday 24 November, for a reading and Q&A session organised by The Writers Workshop. It's an in-person event held in the Waterstones cafe, pitched at aspiring writers — especially those writing children's fiction — as well as keen readers. The two authors will read from their work and then take questions from the room, so it's as much about the craft of writing as it is about the books themselves.
Amy Sparkes is a Devon-based, award-winning, New York Times bestselling author with more than 30 books to her name, including the global hit series The House At The Edge of Magic. She also writes for adults, produces films and supports other writers, so she brings a fair bit of experience across different formats to the table.
Genevieve Carver is a poet and writer whose work has been performed in some unusual settings: disused factories, uninhabited islands and offshore windfarms. A former archaeologist, she holds an MA in European Prehistory from the University of Sheffield, and The Ocean and the Bones is her first novel. Between the two of them, you've got a seasoned children's author and a poet-turned-novelist with a background in archaeology, which should make for a wide-ranging conversation.

The session runs from 6:30 PM to 7:30 PM at Waterstones, 24-26 Orchard Square, Sheffield City Centre, S1 2FB. If you're writing your own children's fiction or just enjoy hearing authors talk through how they work, it's a good one to have in the diary.
