Free historic canal walk led by Canal & River Trust volunteers along the Sheffield and Tinsley Canal at Victoria Quays, part of the Trust's 'Let's Activity' campaign.
Let's Walk: Historic Canal Walk (Victoria Quays) is back on Thursday 3 December, with the group meeting outside Victoria Junction Cafe at Victoria Quays, Furnival Rd, Sheffield S4 7YB. It's part of a regular series that runs on the first Thursday of every month, and this one starts at 11am and lasts about an hour and a half.
The walk follows the Sheffield and Tinsley Canal around the Quays, where volunteers from the Canal & River Trust unpick more than 200 years of local history. It's run as part of the Trust's free 'Let's Activity' campaign, a waterways and wellbeing initiative that encourages people to get out, get active and learn to paddle. The sessions are aimed at adults and children, with parents or guardians accompanying the younger ones. Wildlife spotting on the water is as much part of the day as the local history, so keep an eye on the canal as you go.

One practical thing to keep in mind: the route isn't accessible for wheelchairs or pushchairs, as there are cobbles and stairs along the way. If you're coming from across the city, getting there is straightforward. Buses 5, 24, 25, 97, 98, X54 and X74 all stop nearby, and it's about a 15-minute walk from Sheffield Train Station. The walk is free.
