Weekly Sunday drawing session led by storyboard artist Ed Swales, exploring observational drawing of animals, food, portraits and still life.
Storyline Arts are running drawing sessions at The Punch Bowl in Crookes, with the next one on Sunday 1 November from 12:30 to 1:30. It's part of a weekly run that's been going since 14 June, so if you're not sure about a single hour, you can just drop in and see how it feels.
The sessions are led by Ed Swales, a TV and film storyboard artist whose credits include Casualty for the BBC and The One Note Man for Disney+. He also works as a senior lecturer in Cinematography at MetFilm School and a visiting lecturer at Leeds Arts University, so he's spent a fair bit of time teaching the craft as well as doing it.
Each session focuses on drawing from observation and material workflow, with the subject changing each week. You'll work through things like animals, food and drink, portraits and still life, and the focus is on practical techniques and professional observational methods rather than just sketching for the sake of it. All materials are provided, so you don't need to bring your own kit—just turn up. The sessions run for an hour and are for over-18s.
