Live folk night with New York ballad singer Kristoffer Andrew Ross and support from the instrumental guitar project M Haiux at Bishops' House.
Kristoffer Andrew Ross plays Bishops' House on Thursday 22 October, with support from M Haiux. The night is presented by Sonido Polifonico.
Ross is a folk singer and guitarist from rural Upstate New York who specialises in the traditional ballads of the Northeastern United States and their roots in the British Isles. He works with vocal and fingerstyle guitar arrangements that he links to the songs' ties to immigration, labour and class struggles. Beyond his solo work, he leads and arranges for the Men o' War Balladeers, a Celtic and Maritime Ballad band for whom he's produced two albums, including 2019's Low Lie the Fields. When he isn't playing, he's a farmer in Cambridge, NY.
Opening the night is M Haiux, the instrumental guitar project of Liverpool musician Matthew McPartlan. He describes his work as sitting between contemporary folk, experimental acoustic and American Primitive guitar traditions. He runs the independent label Hollow Gesture Records and was previously in the John Peel favourites Cranebuilders.
