A film season of award-winning short films from the Kendal Mountain Festival, showcasing landscapes and expeditions with input from the filmmakers.
The Kendal Mountain Festival Cinematic Tour 2027 comes to Showroom Cinema on Wednesday 21 April, bringing a handpicked selection of award-winning short films to Sheffield. It's the film-only strand of the wider Kendal Mountain Festival, so it's a focused night of cinema rather than a full festival experience.
The films themselves are curated from the festival's award-winning shorts, and the focus is on breathtaking landscapes and bold expeditions. It's not just the films on screen, either: the tour includes behind-the-scenes input from the filmmakers themselves, so you'll hear from the people who actually went out and shot the footage.
To get a sense of where this comes from, it helps to know the festival it's part of. The Kendal Mountain Festival started in 1980 and has grown into an internationally acclaimed gathering for filmmakers, writers, adventurers and outdoor enthusiasts. The full event runs over four days every November, bringing together more than 200 live sessions, including over 300 speakers, 150 films and 60 activities, for more than 25,000 adventure seekers. The Cinematic Tour is the part that travels, taking a curated slice of those films on the road throughout the year.

If you're into adventure and the outdoors, it's a good way to see some of the festival's best work without having to head up to Cumbria in November. The screening is at Showroom Cinema on Wednesday 21 April, starting at 20:00.
