Live folk concert by Jim Moray, known for his digitally driven approach to traditional songs, at The Greystones.
Jim Moray plays The Greystones on Saturday 13 February, starting at 7:30pm. He's a singer-songwriter who works in traditional folk, but he's known for a digitally driven approach to it — taking old songs and reworking them with electronics and modern production rather than just playing them straight.
He's been at it for a while now, with seven albums to his name. The first, Sweet England, came out in 2003 and picked up BBC Radio 2's Folk Album of the Year. Later records like Skulk (2012) and Upcetera (2016) continued that same thread of blending traditional folk with a more contemporary, electronic sound. Over the years he's played Glastonbury, the Royal Albert Hall and WOMAD, so this is a fairly intimate room for him.
These days he's often talked about as being at the forefront of a new folk revival in the UK, and as a pivotal influence on a younger generation of folk musicians. If you're not familiar with his work, that's a good place to start: he's one of the more consistently inventive musicians working in the tradition today, and his approach is a big part of why he's still being talked about.
