Solo show by singer-songwriter Nerina Pallot with her guitar and piano at The Greystones.
Nerina Pallot plays The Greystones on Friday 30 October, as part of her Fire Escapes Symphony Tour. It's a run of intimate dates across the UK and Ireland, and this is the Sheffield stop. She's an Ivor Novello and Brit Award nominee, a London-based singer and songwriter who writes soulful, lyrical songs. She's been at it for over two decades now, and the bill is described as an evening of honesty, humour and songs that have soundtracked lives for more than 20 years.
The format is stripped back: she plays completely solo, armed only with her songs, her stories, a guitar and a piano. She's deliberately trading grand stages for close connection, so this is a night of her on her own rather than a full band. The tour follows a highly acclaimed performance at the Royal Albert Hall, and the name of the tour, Fire Escapes Symphony, points to that same material brought down to a smaller room.
There's a bit of a story behind her, too. Born in 1975, she spent much of her childhood on the island of Jersey, following her native-born father; her mother is from India, and she lived there for some time. She won a scholarship to Wellington College, a famous military public school in England. If you're wondering about the name, it's pronounced 'pal-oh' in the French style.
