A guided tour of the Energy Recovery Facility control room, part of Sheffield's Waste Wonder Day, explaining the journey of general waste.
Veolia Sheffield is opening its doors for Inside the ERF Tour on Saturday 17 October, part of the city's Waste Wonder Day. The tour takes you inside the control room of Sheffield's Energy Recovery Facility, where you'll see where the city's general waste actually goes and what happens to it once it arrives. It's a rare look at the machinery that handles the bins we put out every week, and the tour departs from the ERF car park at the Veolia Sheffield Depot on Lumley Street, S4 7ZJ.
The tour is just one part of the day. Around the depot, there's a whole range of family activities running alongside it. The South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Team will be there explaining why putting batteries in the wrong bins is so dangerous, and a Sheffield Clothing Repair session will show you how to reuse and repair your old clothes rather than binning them. Scrap Dragon is running craft activities using scrap material, and there's a Junk Orchestra you can play along with. There's also a chance to take photos with the facility's bin wagons.
Every week we pick 🏆 the 5 best 🏆 things to do in Sheffield and send them to your inbox. Just one weekly email, no spam.
